BIO

In the city of Villa Constitución, Santa Fe, Argentina you can find the luthier Maximiliano Salcedo. In his workshop, you can marvel at every detail applied to the instruments. Blocks of wood, necks and tools come together in creation. You can breathe perfection and passion for guitars
Within his first chords with classical guitar at 8 years old, and the electric guitar at 12 years old, curiosity came to stay in the life of Maxi. Asking himself how those instruments were made? How to calibrate them properly?
With persistence and dedication, Maxi became a specialist in "diseases" of the guitar, this created a great prestige in his circle of friends. But he did not stop there, and nowadays he manufactures high quality guitars.
Here are some questions and answers to learn more about how Salcedo Guitarworks was born.

How was the idea of developing instruments born?
It was not exoected at first, I could say that it came along. It all started with the desire of building my own guitar, to do that I took my first steps in the lutherie with Ivan Blascovich an excellent luthier of Rosario city. Unfortunately I could not finish learning from him so I had to use text books, ask people who dedicate to do this and find info on the web. Things that I wasnt able to learn that way I had to learn on my own with time. Like all colleagues have begun, I started making copies of instruments of known brands but there comes a point where I wanted to do my own design instruments, beyond the designs are always inspired and based on something, the idea of making my own models was what I really wanted to do.

Who buys your instruments? Do you know your clients?
Many contact me through my blog or my Facebook page but also it was spread by word of mouth and many contact me because they see or test a guitar built by me. I haven`t met most of my clients before but there are some who become friends, that's good and I like it.

What should you know to be a good luthier?
I think it is not just knowledge, it is also the "know how". You can have a lot of knowledge but the final result is the sum of many well done things, that comes from not only theorical knowledge but also many hours of practice, tryings, mistakes, etc.

Do you have to be a musician to be luthier?
Yes, it is not necessary to be a great musician but it is required to perceive things that happen with the instrument, some are subtle, some not so but all those things are known by someone who has hours of practice with the instrument.

Tell us something about the guitars you build...
Mainly I put emphasis on the materials that I use, selecting high quality wood, combining them to look for the final result to be an instrument that sounds well and not just making it look attractive. I am very meticulous and I like the things to be perfect, always within my own workplace limitations, but I try to improve from one instrument to another.

In addition to building guitars, what other services are offered?
Calibrations, refrettings, repairs, refinishings, etc.

How long does it take to build a guitar?
Depending on the complexity of the instrument it can take between 4 and 6 months.

Concerning the construction of guitars, do you have any limits?
I do not like to think about limits, if there is any work that I have not done yet, I prefer to think that it is only a matter of time.

What are your plans for the future? (Speaking of guitars, of course :P)
Stop making copies or clones and work 100% on building my own models.

Now that you know a little more about Salcedo Guitarworks, we invite you to meet all our creations and to customize your own guitar with the Builder.
